EU regulations on waste material are very long and complex. At an EU level the current legislation is the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/CE which covers a multitude of EU laws aimed at specific problems and waste which require special frameworks.
The incorporation of this legislation into Spanish law has given rise to huge numbers of legal documents. The following is a list of some of the most important:
- Law 22/2011 (28th July) on Waste and Contaminated Land.
- Directive 2012/19/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
- Royal Decree 110/2015 (20th February) on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
- Royal Decree 180/2015 (13th March) which regulates the transport of waste within the Spanish territory.
